1. Anchor yourself in the present moment for a sense of stability and peace

By bringing your focus on where you are right now — this very moment in time — you can get more value out of your time during grounding, and find relief from the constant racing thoughts and worries.

Anchoring yourself in the present moment involves remaining mindful of your thoughts and emotions without judging or reacting to them, and gently redirecting your focus back to the present moment if you find yourself getting caught up in anxious thoughts.

It’s not about escaping your feelings, but gently guiding your attention away from the chaos and back to the here and now. This simple yet profound act of mindfulness can make space for clarity and allow your spiritual awakening to unfold naturally.

2. Incorporate essential oils

Create a soothing atmosphere by adding a few drops of essential oil to a diffuser, letting the aroma fill your meditation space. As you meditate, take slow, deliberate breaths, as the oil supports your presence in the here and now.

My personal favourite essential oil diffuser mix to help me stay connected while grounding is 2 drops Bergamot, 3 drops Geranium, 2 drops Clary Sage and 3 drops Patchouli.

3. Walk barefoot in nature – go on an actual journey

Walking barefoot in the outside world while meditating can be a powerful way to reconnect with the energy of the earth beneath you. By feeling the ground beneath your feet, you allow your physical body to align with the natural rhythms of the earth beneath you, creating a sense of stability and calm. This simple practice can help you balance your spiritual and physical energy, giving you clarity while keeping feelings of anxiety at bay.

4. Integrate the five senses of your physical body

Grounding yourself spiritually is about embodying your connection to the earth in a way that feels intuitive and calming for your nervous system. By using the five senses of your physical body, you can deepen your spiritual practices and bring more presence to your energy grounding techniques.

While the popular 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 exercise is a valuable technique for grounding, it engages the left-brain (logic) and can pull your attention out of this deeply spiritual practice. Ways to do this include allowing sunlight to soak into your skin. Listen to the meditation whilst you can hear the gentle rustling of leaves of a tree. Place your feet firmly on the earth, connecting deeply to its nurturing core. It’s about accessing whatever earthy sensory input is available to you – without pushing yourself back up into your head. Through this balanced exchange of energy, you’ll discover clarity and calmness without feeling overwhelmed.

5. Focus on Your Breath

Taking time out to focus on your breath allows you create a moment of clarity, and the chaos in your mind to settle. As you listen to the meditation, close your eyes, and notice how your breath flows naturally, steadying your heart rate and calming your energy. You know the importance of eating a balanced diet with plenty of healthy foods, but the B-group vitamins in root vegetables especially will help you stay grounded and connected to your body.

Root vegetables grow underground, absorbing nutrients from the soil and bringing them up into their roots. This means they are also packed with nutrients such as vitamin C, potassium, and magnesium that are essential for maintaining a healthy nervous system and overall balance in the body. Additionally, their rich fibrous content helps regulate digestion and keep blood sugar levels stable.

Some common root vegetables include carrots, sweet potatoes, beets, and parsnips. These can be roasted, steamed, or even pureed into soups for a delicious and grounding addition to your meals. You can also get creative and use them in dishes like veggie burgers or stir-fries.

Another way to incorporate root vegetables into your diet is by juicing them. This allows you to consume a large amount of nutrients in one go and is especially beneficial for those who struggle with fitting in whole vegetables.
